Baltimore Brunch: 3 Must-Trys
Every year, my boyfriend and I find ourselves in a rather interesting situation. We know we want to take two trips a year (ideally 1 international and 1 domestic) but we end up overthinking everything. So, to solve for this … we drink some beers.
You probably think I’m kidding, but for the past two years we’ve made spontaneous flight purchases under the influence of alcohol. It’s worked out nicely 2 out of the 3 times, but there was that one time we went to Costa Rica -- eek!
Anyway, last weekend wasn’t a fail. I bought our tickets to Baltimore during one of the NFL Playoff games, while sippin' on brews at The King’s Head Pub. I chose Baltimore because Pedro’s sister lives there and she’d be able to guide us during our 4-day weekend trip. Unfortunately, it rained 2 out of the 4 afternoons we were there, but that didn’t stop us from partaking in the most important meal of the day -- brunch. So, here are my top 3 restaurants I think everyone should check out in Charm City. (Forgive me for the awful photos ... I was distracted by deliciousness)
Blue Moon Cafe
Umm okay, so when I heard the words “red velvet pancakes,” I immediately started salivating. Add the mention of “Captain Crunch french toast,” and I was head over heels before I even tried it. It definitely lived up to my expectations. I also got a little taste of the Chorizo omelette and the Huevos Rancheros … sooo flavorful! The place is a little small so you’ll probably want to keep your group to 5 or less, but it’s definitely worth checking out!
Wit & Wisdom at The Four Seasons
When I saw the brunch buffet laid out before me, my eyes grew about 10x their normal size. Although I’m not one to take full advantage of a buffet, I sure did indulge. I started off at the omelette station where one of the cooks made my omelette on the spot. I had eggs, spinach, tomatoes, bacon and cheddar -- sounds boring but it was quite the opposite. I paired that with some potatoes and a biscuit with gravy. To drink, I had myself some coffee AND a mimosa because why not (shrugs shoulders). And to end my buffet journey, I had a made-to-order crepe with Nutella + strawberries + bananas. Yum! Obviously, being in the Four Seasons, this was on the pricey side (about $60/person) but if you’re really wanting to treat yourself on vacation, I say do it.
Clavel Mezcaleria
OH. MY. GOODNESS this place was incredible. The authentic Mexican food and trendy spot reminded me of Cuchara in Houston, except the prices were much more reasonable. For example, my super delicious and bountiful chilaquiles were only $8, compared to Cuchara’s $13, and they were just as spicy and scrumptious! You might be saying, “wow, a whole $5 -- big whoop,” but trust me, it all adds up once you start adding the cocktails and/or appetizers.
